Best Math Tuition Singapore Lesson 18

LESSON 18 SYNOPSIS (14 April – 20 April 2025)

13 April 2025

At Matrix Math, we provide an engaging and detailed learning experience for your child. Matrix Math Tuition programme focuses on essential concepts that will further strengthen their mathematical foundation. The lesson synopsis gives parents a clear preview of the topics and problem-solving skills that will be covered in class. At Matrix Math, we ensure that each lesson is designed to build confidence and mastery in math, preparing students for success in both school and beyond.

Primary 1 Lesson 18

This week, we will continue with “Numbers to 20”, Lesson 6.

Students will learn to solve problem sums related to Before-Change-After concepts by recognising the values of “Before,” “Change,” and “After.”

In Primary 1, these types of problem sums can be addressed using a simple number statement. However, as students progress to higher levels, Before-Change-After problems become more intricate. It will be advantageous for children to start early and learn to approach such questions from a different perspective.

Primary 2 Lesson 18

This week, we’ll start the topic of Time. Building on Primary 1, where students learned to read the hour and minute hands and tell time in quarters and halves of an hour, we will now:

  • Read Time to the Minute: Students will learn to read the clock accurately to the minute.
  • Add and Subtract Time: Introducing methods to add and subtract hours and minutes.
  • Problem Sums: Solving problems involving sequences of events to determine end times.

Primary 3 Lesson 18

This week, we will be revisiting the topic of Graphs, with a focus on bar charts and multi-step data analysis. Students were first introduced to basic graph interpretation back in Primary 2, and while the graph types remain largely the same in Primary 3, the level of analysis required becomes more advanced.

In this lesson, students will:

  • Solve multi-step questions that require careful interpretation and comparison of data from bar charts.
  • Revise the Supposition Method, which was previously taught in Lesson 13, and apply it to selected graph-related problem sums.

This lesson is designed to strengthen both critical thinking and data reasoning skills, which are essential in solving upper primary math questions involving graphs.

Primary 4 Lesson 18

This week, we will be revising some of the topics and concepts that the students have previously learned in class.

Our goal is to reinforce their understanding of mathematical concepts, and improve their overall competency in higher-order model drawing skills. We will focus on five key areas, including

  • Fraction operations
  • Fraction as Quantity and Units
  • Factors and Multiples
  • External Transfer
  • Geometry.

Primary 5 Lesson 18

This week, we will be continuing our focus on the topic of Volume.

During this session, we aim to delve deeper into four key problem-solving concepts, as follows:

  • Quantity and Value: This concept, already introduced in previous topics, will be extended in the Volume context.
  • Proportionality Concept with containers having the same volume of water.
  • Proportionality Concept with containers having the same Base Area
  • The volume of Similar Figures

These lessons are designed to build on previous knowledge and develop a more nuanced understanding of volume, providing students with a solid foundation to handle more complex problem sums.

Primary 6 Lesson 18

This week, we will be revising some of the topics and concepts that the students have previously learned in class.

Our goal is to reinforce their understanding of mathematical concepts, and improve their overall competency in higher-order model problem sums. We will focus on these key areas, including:

  • Speed
  • Whole numbers
  • Volume
  • Algebra
  • Circles
  • Ratios
