Best Math Tuition Singapore Lesson 7

LESSON 7 SYNOPSIS (26 January – 1 February 2026)

24 January 2026

At Matrix Math, we provide an engaging and detailed learning experience for your child. Matrix Math Tuition programme focuses on essential concepts that will further strengthen their mathematical foundation. The lesson synopsis gives parents a clear preview of the topics and problem-solving skills that will be covered in class. At Matrix Math, we ensure that each lesson is designed to build confidence and mastery in math, preparing students for success in both school and beyond.

Primary 1 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will strengthen their understanding of addition and subtraction within 10, with a focus on choosing the correct operation and finding missing numbers systematically.

  • Practise deciding whether to use “+” or “−” based on number relationships

  • Reinforce the part–part–whole concept to connect addition and subtraction

  • Learn to find missing numbers in addition and subtraction sentences

  • Apply strategies such as Total − Part = Part and Part + Part = Total

  • Solve simple problem sums involving sums and differences within 10

  • Emphasise solving questions using clear steps and logical thinking, not guessing

This lesson will strengthen students’ number bonds, operation sense, and reasoning skills, building a strong foundation for more complex word problems in later topics.

Primary 2 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will learn to solve comparison word problems using the unit model method, focusing on relationships such as more than, fewer than, twice, and thrice.

  • Introduce comparison problems involving part–whole relationships and quantity differences

  • Learn to represent information using units to compare two or more groups

  • Practise solving problems where one group has more or fewer items than another

  • Apply multiplication ideas such as twice as many and thrice as many using units

  • Solve word problems where the total is given, and students need to find individual parts

  • Emphasise removing known parts and the “extra” before finding the unknown value

Primary 3 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will learn to solve grouping and sharing word problems using division, with a focus on understanding and handling remainders correctly.

  • Introduce grouping problems where the remainder is ignored (e.g. rewards, free items)

  • Practise grouping problems where the remainder must be considered (e.g. buses, rooms, trips needed)

  • Learn to interpret the meaning of the remainder based on the context of the question

  • Apply division to difference-type problems, where an difference per group is given

  • Reinforce the use of clear step-by-step reasoning instead of guesswork

Primary 4 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will learn to solve advanced word problems involving transfer and comparison, using model drawing and unit comparison to track changes accurately.

  • Introduce external transfer problems where the difference remains unchanged after equal amounts are added or removed

  • Practise solving age, money, length, and quantity problems using unit comparison (e.g. twice, thrice, four times as much)

  • Learn to identify and apply the correct strategy for unchanged difference situations

  • Introduce internal transfer problems where the total remains unchanged, focusing on redistribution between groups

  • Reinforce the habit of analysing before–change–after systematically to avoid common mistakes

This lesson will strengthen students’ algebraic thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving accuracy, which are key skills for tackling more complex multi-step word problems in upper primary.

Primary 5 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will learn to solve fraction and unit-model word problems involving remainders, focusing on identifying the correct remainder strategy for different problem types.

  • Introduce remainder concept (basic) using unit models and LCM to find the smallest valid total

  • Practise problems where the value of a part is given, and students work backwards to find the total

  • Apply the remainder concept to situations involving money, quantity, and measurements

  • Learn to solve problems where the value of the difference is given, using unit comparison

  • Reinforce choosing the correct model and steps before calculating, to avoid common errors

This lesson will strengthen students’ fraction sense, algebraic thinking, and multi-step problem-solving skills, which are essential for higher-level fraction and heuristic questions in Primary 5.

Primary 6 Lesson 7

In Lesson 7, students will strengthen their understanding of percentage concepts and apply them to multi-step word problems involving real-life contexts.

  • Revise and apply percentage increase and decrease, including interpretation of graphs

  • Solve problems involving discounts, successive discounts, and GST

  • Learn to work backwards to find original values from given percentage changes

  • Apply percentage concepts to ratio, comparison, and difference-based problems

  • Practise analysing problems carefully to decide the correct percentage base before calculating

This lesson will strengthen students’ conceptual understanding of percentages, accuracy, and exam-readiness, which are critical skills for tackling higher-level PSLE percentage and data-interpretation questions.
