Why Fractions, and why these three days

Schools are closed from 12 to 14 October for PSLE marking. For most P4 students, the End-of-Year exams start about a week later. These three days are the last quiet stretch to fix Fractions before the paper.

Fractions also does not end in P4. Decimals, Percentage and Ratio in the upper primary years are all built on it, so a gap left now tends to grow later.

  1. 12–14 Oct

    No school. The P4 Fractions Intensive runs on one of these days.

  2. 15 Oct

    School reopens.

  3. About a week later

    P4 End-of-Year exams begin in most schools.

This session is built for P4 students who:

  • Joined our weekly classes in the second half of the year, and so missed all six Fractions lessons we covered before June.

  • Still gets stuck on Fractions word problems, even when the basic sums are fine.

  • Can't tell which type of Fractions question they are looking at, so they don't know which method to use.

If even one of these sounds familiar, the 3 hours will be well spent.

We go from the basics to the hardest word problems, in that order, so every child starts on solid ground before the questions get tough.

First third

Concepts, rebuilt

We revisit the Fractions concepts the P4 exam is built on, starting from the basics, so no gaps are carried into the harder questions.

Second third

Question types, sorted

Your child learns to recognise the different types of Fractions word problems that schools test, and which method fits each one.

Final third

Harder problems, practised

We work through the advanced, multi-step word problems most students find hardest, step by step with the Matrix Method™.
