Speed questions can be grouped into 4 types.
Type 1 – Involving one object moving. To solve these type of Speed questions, students will need to master the manipulation of the speed formula.
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Distance = Speed x Time
Time = Distance ÷ Speed
Type 2 – Involving two objects moving in the same direction. To solve these type of Speed questions, the key data that need to be solved is the total difference in distance travelled per unit time (e.g. the total difference in distance per hour)
Type 3 – Involving two objects moving in the opposite direction. To solve these type of Speed questions, the key data that need to be solved is the total distance travelled per unit time (e.g. the total distance per hour)
Type 4 – Involving the use of Ratio. These questions usually involve multiple scenarios; between these scenarios, one of the Speed Elements (e.g., Speed/Distance/Time) is constant.
