Primary 1 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Numbers to 100 2, where students learn to solve word problems using the part-wholeapproach within 100.

Learn to identify the whole by combining two parts using addition
Practise finding a missing part when the whole and one part are known
Strengthen the habit of determining “What can I find?” before solving
Apply the part-whole model to decide which operation fits the problem
Introduce question identification — selecting the correct question from given information
Consolidate through multi-step problems involving three quantities and sequential reasoning

These skills form the reasoning foundation for upper primary multi-step word problems

Primary 2 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Money 3, where students tackle multi-concept money word problems involving division, comparison, and unit reasoning.

Learn to solve grouping problems by dividing a total amount by unit cost and ignoring the remainder
Apply multiplication to find the value of a quantity described as “times as much”
Practise finding the difference between two amounts after comparison
Strengthen reasoning by isolating an unknown amount from a total involving multiple people
Introduce the stacking model to express different items in terms of equal units and solve for each unit’s value

These structured methods prepare students to manage multi-step money problems, building towards higher order word problem demands.

Primary 3 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Measurement 1, covering length, mass, and volume through conversion, scale reading, and word problems involving compound units.

Learn to convert between metres and centimetres, kilograms and grams, and litres and millilitres
Practise reading weighing scales and beakers to determine values in standard and compound units
Apply diagram interpretation to compare lengths and calculate distances along a route
Strengthen reasoning with part-whole word problems requiring subtraction across compound units
Consolidate multi-step problems where students track quantities removed in stages to find the remainder

Primary 4 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Decimals 1, introducing the full range of decimal concepts from place value through operations and estimation.

Learn to read and write decimals using the place value chart up to thousandths
Practise converting between decimals and fractions in simplest form
Apply comparing and ordering strategies to arrange decimals in ascending and descending order
Strengthen understanding of number notation by identifying digit positions and their corresponding values
Reinforce the four operations with decimals including multiplication by 10 and 100
Consolidate rounding to the nearest tenth and hundredth, and determine the smallest or largest possible value before rounding

Primary 5 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Patterns, training students to identify, extend, and apply repeating and growing number and shape patterns across four structured concepts.

Learn to identify repeating cycles in number sequences and use grouping with division to find any term’s position or value
Practise calculating the sum of elements within a repeating pattern by combining group totals with remainders
Apply the interval concept to growing figure patterns, linking figure number to the count of shapes or lines
Strengthen reasoning with square number patterns to find totals involving squared relationships
Consolidate pattern work using table arrangements, identifying which column or row a given number belongs to

Primary 6 Lesson 28

This lesson builds foundation in Algebra, developing students’ ability to simplify, evaluate, and solve algebraic expressions and equations in context.

Learn to simplify algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and forming expressions from word problems
Practise evaluating expressions by substituting given values and determining whether statements are true or false
Apply equation solving to find unknowns in word problems involving multiples, totals, and perimeter
Strengthen algebraic reasoning by forming equations from real-world contexts such as pricing and quantities
Reinforce through revision problems integrating percentage, area, angles, and commission with structured working

This lesson consolidates essential algebra skills frequently tested across both PSLE Paper 1 and Paper 2.
