Primary 1 Lesson 30

This lesson builds foundation in Numbers to 100 L4, covering before-and-after problems within 100, where students find what is known and unknown as a quantity changes.

  • Learn to tell apart before, change, and after quantities in a problem.
  • Apply subtraction to find the after amount when items are removed.
  • Apply addition to find the after amount when items are added.
  • Practise finding the change amount from before and after quantities.
  • Strengthen backward reasoning to find the before amount from change and result.
  • Introduce selecting the one question a scenario asks, among options given.
  • Reinforce accuracy by spotting errors in solutions.

Primary 2 Lesson 30

This lesson builds foundation in Fractions 1, the first fractions lesson for Primary 2, covering how to recognise, represent, compare, and operate on simple fractions.

  • Learn to identify a fraction from a shaded or divided figure.
  • Practise representing a fraction by shading a figure to match it.
  • Apply the reverse process: completing a figure to match a stated fraction.
  • Strengthen the idea of a unit fraction by counting equal parts across wholes.
  • Learn to order fractions from smallest to greatest.
  • Reinforce the same skill in reverse, greatest to smallest.
  • Introduce simple addition and subtraction of fractions with the same whole.

Primary 3 Lesson 30

This lesson under Measurement 3 brings together four structured strategies for challenging measurement problems across length, mass, and volume.

  • Apply the interval concept to work forward and backward between spacing, distance, and count of evenly placed objects.
  • Strengthen chained reasoning under comparison of units, tracing a quantity through several “times as much” relationships.
  • Apply combined ratio-and-difference reasoning under comparison of quantity and units.
  • Use the stacking model to represent quantities with a known difference, then solve for each unit’s value.
  • Practise translating wordy, multi-relationship scenarios into a clear model before calculating.
  • Reinforce checking each answer against the relationships stated in the problem.

Primary 4 Lesson 30

This lesson builds foundation in Decimals 3, extending word-problem strategies for decimals into elimination reasoning.

  • Apply the stacking model to find a unit’s value when item types differ by a known amount and total.
  • Learn equal elimination, comparing two purchases sharing one item to isolate the other’s cost.
  • Apply the total concept to find spending on one item when quantities of two items are equal.
  • Introduce the simultaneous concept, forming two number statements to eliminate one unknown.
  • Strengthen comparing two scenarios to cancel a shared quantity before solving.
  • Practise checking a found value against both statements in a problem.

Primary 5 Lesson 30

This lesson builds foundation in Percentage 2, covering three real-world uses of percentage: discount, GST, and interest.

  • Learn to find the final price and discount using the unitary method or percentage-of-whole method.
  • Apply reverse reasoning to find the original price from a discounted price and percentage.
  • Practise discount problems where money saved translates into extra items bought.
  • Learn to calculate GST both ways: adding it to a price and stripping it from a GST-inclusive price.
  • Apply simple interest to find interest earned and the year-end total.
  • Reinforce reverse reasoning to find the original deposit from a total and rate.

Primary 6 Lesson 30

This is a revision lesson under PSLE Revision 2, covering patterns, area, fraction of area, percentage, quantity comparison, and geometry in exam-level questions.

  • Revise pattern reasoning with repeating sequences and fixed spacing.
  • Revise area and perimeter of composite figures after pieces are cut away.
  • Revise fraction of area comparisons between shapes on a grid.
  • Revise multi-step percentage problems tracing income, spending, and savings over two periods.
  • Revise unit-value elimination for quantities differing by a fixed cost or length.
  • Revise percentage change problems with a growing or shrinking group.
  • Revise angle properties in figures and averages with an unknown difference.
