Primary 1 Lesson 35

This lesson builds foundation in Length 2, where students move from comparing two objects to ordering three or four by length or height. Problems progress from picture comparison to written statements with no diagram given.

  • Learn to use comparative and superlative language precisely — longer, shorter, longest, tallest
  • Apply non-standard units such as paper clips and squares to measure and compare
  • Practise reading length in cm from a scaled figure
  • Strengthen finding the difference and total between two lengths
  • Reinforce ordering by holding several comparisons in mind at once
  • Consolidate equivalence, recognising when two objects are equally long

Primary 2 Lesson 35

Select 11 is a revision lesson covering whole numbers, picture graphs, time, mass, length, money and fractions in one mixed set. Questions are unlabelled, so students must first decide which method applies.

  • Reinforce part-whole and comparison thinking when a total is found from a stated difference
  • Apply grouping and repeated addition to multiplication and division problems
  • Strengthen reading picture graphs and working backwards to a missing value
  • Practise two-step mass and length problems using before-and-after reasoning
  • Consolidate fraction of a whole and comparing fractions with equal numerators
  • Reinforce interval reasoning, distinguishing points from the gaps between them

Primary 3 Lesson 35

Select 9 is a revision lesson pulling together volume, mass, length, fractions, money and geometry. Most questions are multi-step, so students must plan their working order before calculating.

  • Reinforce unit conversion between litres and millilitres, metres and centimetres
  • Apply grouping and division to find how many parts fit within a whole
  • Strengthen interval reasoning, distinguishing objects from the gaps between them
  • Practise multiplicative comparison where one quantity is a multiple of another
  • Consolidate fraction of a remainder after part of a whole is used
  • Apply before-and-after reasoning to work backwards to a starting amount
  • Reinforce recognition of parallel lines and obtuse angles in figures

Primary 4 Lesson 35

Select 9 is a revision lesson consolidating the harder end of Primary 4, where students revisit bar model word problems, decimals, fractions, angles, and reasoning puzzles. It trains students to read layered, multi-step problems carefully and choose a structured method rather than guessing.

  • Reinforce before-and-after bar models to track quantities that change through transfers between two parties
  • Consolidate ordering and comparing decimals by place value in ascending and descending order
  • Apply rate and unit-cost reasoning to problems involving equal purchases and price differences
  • Strengthen angle properties of rectangles and squares to find unknown angles
  • Practise gaps-and-intervals reasoning for problems on cuts, knots, and spacing
  • Reinforce factors and multiples to find the smallest number divisible by several values

Primary 5 Lesson 36

Select 11 is a revision lesson covering decimals, percentage, rate tables, angles, volume and data interpretation. Questions are unlabelled and mostly multi-step, so students must decide the method before working.

  • Reinforce percentage work involving discount, GST and percentage of a remainder
  • Apply rate reasoning to stepped charging tables and to line graphs
  • Strengthen decimal conversion between metres, centimetres, litres and millilitres
  • Practise highest common factor thinking in equal-sharing problems
  • Consolidate unit comparison where a difference in cost fixes the number of sets
  • Apply angle properties on a straight line and at a point
  • Reinforce volume visualisation using top and front views of solids

Primary 6 Lesson 35

PSLE Revision 7 is a revision lesson combining average, ratio, algebra, area and rate problems at examination standard. Several questions supply information indirectly, so students must extract the relationships before calculating.

  • Reinforce average as a total, adjusting one value against another
  • Apply the supposition method to scoring problems with marks deducted
  • Strengthen ratio reasoning across overlapping areas within a figure
  • Practise unit comparison where two totals are equal but composition differs
  • Consolidate algebraic expressions, judging what can and cannot be concluded
  • Apply rate thinking to work completed per minute
  • Reinforce volume and area work using dimensions deduced from figures
