LESSON 37 SYNOPSIS (31 August – 1 September 2026)

Primary 1 Lesson 37

This lesson builds foundation in Multiplication 2, where students learn to read a picture as equal groups and turn it into a multiplication sentence. Problems progress from arrangements of objects to worded situations.

  • Learn to identify the number of groups and the number in each group
  • Apply the structure groups × number in each group = total
  • Practise writing a multiplication sentence from a given figure
  • Strengthen understanding that two number statements describe the same arrangement
  • Reinforce matching between pictures, repeated addition and multiplication
  • Consolidate reading of word problems to decide which quantity is the group size

Primary 2 Lesson 37

This lesson builds foundation in Volume 1, where students learn to measure liquid in litres and millilitres and solve two-step word problems involving containers. Problems move from conversion to multi-step reasoning.

  • Learn to convert between litres and millilitres using 1 L = 1000 ml
  • Practise comparing volumes written in different units
  • Apply addition and subtraction of volume with renaming
  • Introduce the total concept, finding a total then repeating to find a larger total
  • Strengthen use of the unitary method to find one unit before finding the total
  • Consolidate reading of container problems to decide which quantity is one unit

Primary 3 Lesson 37

This lesson builds foundation in Area & Perimeter 1, where students learn to work with the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles. Problems move from direct calculation to working backwards from a given measurement.

  • Learn to find perimeter by adding all sides of a figure
  • Introduce area as a count of unit squares within a boundary
  • Apply the area formula, length × breadth, to squares and rectangles
  • Practise finding a missing side when the perimeter is given
  • Strengthen working backwards from a given area to find an unknown side
  • Consolidate two-step problems that link area and perimeter together

Primary 4 Lesson 37

Select 12 is a revision lesson drawing together whole number word problems, angles and patterns. Students revisit reasoning methods rather than single topics, working across mixed question types.

  • Revise the supposition method for coin problems with two unknowns
  • Apply the equal concept to before-and-after changes in two quantities
  • Strengthen comparison to eliminate a repeated item and find one unit
  • Practise working backwards from a total to find the original group size
  • Reinforce interval reasoning for lamp posts and steps, counting gaps
  • Consolidate angle measurement and number pattern extension

Primary 5 Lesson 37

This lesson builds foundation in Graphs, where students learn to read bar and line graphs whose scales are not given. Problems progress from matching descriptions to graphs, through to rate and cumulative interpretation.

  • Learn to match a written description to the correct graph using comparison
  • Apply unit reasoning to find values when the scale is unmarked
  • Strengthen reading of non-cumulative graphs, separating amount used from amount left
  • Practise interpreting cumulative graphs of volume, linking rate to time
  • Reinforce handling of two data sets drawn on different scales
  • Consolidate judging statements as true, false or impossible to tell

Primary 6 Lesson 37

PSLE Revision 9 is a revision lesson covering area and perimeter, angles, volume and rate, ratio and average. Students work across the full question range they will meet in the exam paper.

  • Revise finding the difference in area between regions within a figure
  • Apply angle properties of isosceles triangles and parallelograms to find unknowns
  • Strengthen interval reasoning when beads are attached along equal lengths of string
  • Practise comparison of two equal totals to find an unknown quantity
  • Reinforce reading of volume-time graphs to work out rate and overflow
  • Consolidate before-and-after ratio problems and average with constraints
