At Matrix Math, we provide an engaging and detailed learning experience for your child. Matrix Math Tuition programme focuses on essential concepts that will further strengthen their mathematical foundation. The lesson synopsis gives parents a clear preview of the topics and problem-solving skills that will be covered in class. At Matrix Math, we ensure that each lesson is designed to build confidence and mastery in math, preparing students for success in both school and beyond.
Primary 1 Lesson 39
This lesson builds foundation in Multiplication, using the equal-groups model as the base for multiplying and dividing whole numbers.
- Learn to identify equal groups, naming the number of groups and the amount in each.
- Apply repeated addition to build multiplication facts.
- Introduce division as sharing, splitting a total equally among equal groups.
- Introduce division as grouping, finding how many equal groups fit into a total.
- Strengthen judgement on whether a problem calls for multiplication or division.
- Practise translating word problems into number sentences independently.
- Consolidate both operations through a two-step sharing problem.
Primary 2 Lesson 39
This lesson advances Volume 3, applying structured methods to volume problems of rising difficulty, moving from totaling to multi-step comparisons using the units method.
- Reinforce part-whole thinking, finding each part before combining into a total.
- Apply multiplication and addition to solve two-item total concept problems.
- Introduce grouping with remainder, rounding up to find the least groups needed.
- Learn the units method to compare quantities as multiples of each other.
- Apply the units method to find one unit’s value first.
- Strengthen part-whole reasoning in comparisons involving three quantities.
- Consolidate reasoning by combining comparison of units with part-whole thinking.
Primary 3 Lesson 39
This lesson builds foundation in Time 1, introducing 12-hour and 24-hour clock notation before applying it to real-life duration problems.
- Learn to convert between minutes/seconds and 12-hour/24-hour clock notation.
- Practise adding and subtracting durations in hours and minutes.
- Apply forward reasoning to find an ending time from a sequence of durations.
- Introduce the total concept, multiplying a rate by a quantity before adding it to a starting time.
- Learn to work backwards from a known ending time to find an earlier starting time.
- Strengthen accuracy in tracking multiple time changes within one problem.
Primary 4 Lesson 39
This lesson advances Area & Perimeter 2, applying the units method to length-breadth ratio problems.
- Practise figure segmentation and restoration to find the area of composite shapes.
- Learn to find a border or frame’s area by subtracting inner area from outer.
- Apply the units method to length-breadth ratios to find composite figure areas.
- Extend the units method to perimeter, finding length and breadth from a given ratio.
- Strengthen fluency in choosing area or perimeter formulas based on what is given.
- Consolidate reasoning by combining ratio thinking with area calculation in one problem.
Primary 5 Lesson 39
This lesson advances Area & Perimeter, introducing techniques to find perimeter without every side length, then extending to area.
- Apply proportional reasoning to find perimeter from a known length-breadth ratio.
- Learn to find missing sides in composite figures built from shapes of equal sides.
- Introduce the cut-and-paste method, repositioning sides of irregular figures to find perimeter easily.
- Practise applying the cut-and-paste method to real-world packing and spatial-gap problems.
- Strengthen judgement on which sides can be inferred rather than directly measured.
- Consolidate reasoning by applying proportional and path methods to find a garden’s area.
Primary 6 Lesson 39
This lesson, PSLE Revision 11, is the last revision lesson consolidating topics ahead of the PSLE, including geometry, ratio, percentage, and before-and-after concepts.
- Reinforce geometry reasoning using angle properties and composite-figure area relationships.
- Apply the before-and-after concept to quantities that change after a transfer or spending.
- Strengthen the units method for fixed-ratio problems involving pens, muffins, and money.
- Apply percentage change and target-based reasoning to a line graph.
- Consolidate multi-step rate and bonus-based earning problems.
- Practise average reasoning when the number of workers changes.
- Reinforce flexible judgement in choosing the right method for each question.
Wishing all our Primary 6 students the very best for the upcoming PSLE Examinations.
